Entrances

 

The number of barrier-free entrances into a building shall conform to table 3.8.1.2

One of the barrier-free entrances shall be the principal entrance to the building

 

 

Washrooms

 

The number of universal washrooms in a building shall conform to table 3.8.2.3.A

barrier-free path of travel shall be provided to barrier-free washrooms designed to accommodate persons with disabilities

 

 

 

Doorways

 

Clear width of not less than 860mm when door is in open position as per 3.8.3.3.(1)

 

 

Activation Switches

 

Round Switches

Switch shall be a minimum of 150mm in diameter as per 3.8.3.3.(17)(a)(i)

Shall be a minimum of 600mm away from door jamb
Shall be a maximum of 1500mm away from door jamb

Shall be a minimum center height of 900mm from floor
Shall be a maximum center height of 1050mm from floor

 

Rectangular Switches

Rectangular switch shall be a minimum of 50mm in width & 100mm in height as per 3.8.3.3.(17)(a)(ii)

Shall be a minimum of 600mm away from door jamb
Shall be a maximum of 1500mm away from door jamb

Shall be a minimum center height of 900mm from floor
Shall be a maximum center height of 1050mm from floor

 

Elongated Switches

Switch shall be a minimum of 150mm in width
Switch shall be a minimum of 725mm in height

Shall be a minimum of 600mm away from door jamb
Shall be a maximum of 1500mm away from door jamb

Top shall be a minimum height of 900mm from floor
Top shall be a maximum height of 1050mm from floor
Bottom shall be a maximum height of 200mm from floor

 

 

Timing

As per BESAM SW100 Installation Manual

 

Opening Time

Door swings open within three to six seconds
(as adjusted)

Applies for closing time as well

 

Open Time

Door held open for 1.5 to 30 seconds (as adjusted)

 

 

Exit Devices

A door is required to be equipped with panic hardware or fire exit hardware (100 occupants or more) on assembly, educational, and daycare occupancies

The device must meet the following criteria:

  • Actuating portion of a push-pad or cross bar will cover not less than half the width of the door
  • Will be mounted not below 865 mm (34 in.) and not more than 1220 mm (48 in.) above the finished floor
  • Be constructed to release with not more than 66 N (15 lbf) in the direction of egress
